The rules of the road

Terms & Conditions

The agreement between you and OpenShadi — written to be read, not skimmed.

Last updated 26 October 2026

01About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and OpenShadi for the use of openshadi.com and the OpenShadi app (together, "the service"). By creating an account or using the service you accept them, together with our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

02A matrimony service — not a dating site

OpenShadi exists to help people find a life partner for marriage. It is not a dating or casual-relationship service, and it must not be used for any purpose other than seeking a marriage alliance.

OpenShadi is an intermediary platform: members create their own profiles and decide whom to contact. We do not arrange marriages, act as a marriage bureau or broker, or take part in the conversations between members.

03Who can join

  • You must be of legal age to marry in India: at least 21 years for men and 18 years for women.
  • You must be legally free to marry — unmarried, divorced, widowed, or awaiting divorce, and you must state your status truthfully.
  • A parent, sibling, relative or friend may create a profile on someone's behalf only with that person's knowledge and consent. The person the profile describes is responsible for it.
  • One person may have only one active profile.
  • You must not use the service if we have previously removed you from it.

04Your account

You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time code sent on WhatsApp. Keep your phone and codes private — you are responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us at once if you suspect someone else has access.

Everything in your profile must be true, current and about the person it describes. Photos must be recent photos of that person.

05How connecting works

  • You send a request (❤) to a member you are interested in. They can accept or decline.
  • A super like (⚡) is a request with a short personal message. While a request or super like of yours is pending, you cannot send another one to the same person.
  • A chat — and voice/video calling in the app — opens only after a request is accepted. Nobody can message you before that.
  • The number of requests and super likes you can send each day depends on your plan, as shown on the Membership page.

06Verification badges

A mobile badge means the member signed in with a code sent to that number. Identity, education and photo badges mean our team has reviewed a document the member submitted.

A badge is a helpful signal, not a guarantee. We do not carry out background checks and we cannot confirm everything a member says about themselves. Before taking any decision about marriage, you and your family should make your own enquiries.

07Sample profiles

While OpenShadi is new, a small number of sample profiles may be shown so that you can see how the service works. Every one of them carries a visible "Sample" tag. Sample profiles are not real people looking for a partner, and they are never shown as verified, premium or online.

08What you must not do

  • Give false information, impersonate someone, or use photos that are not of the person in the profile.
  • Ask any member for money, gifts or financial details, or promote any business, scheme or service.
  • Harass, threaten, insult or pressure anyone, or send obscene, sexual, hateful or defamatory content.
  • Share another member's photos, phone number, messages or personal details outside the service without their consent.
  • Create a profile for anyone under the legal marriage age, or for anyone who is already married (except when awaiting divorce, stated truthfully).
  • Copy, scrape or collect member data, use bots, or try to break or bypass the service's security or limits.
  • Use the service for anything unlawful under Indian law.

We may remove content, limit features, suspend or permanently remove an account that breaks these rules, and report serious matters to the authorities.

09Your content

You own the text and photos you add. You give OpenShadi permission to store them and show them to other members according to your privacy settings, and to use them to run the service (for example, to make a blurred copy of a private photo). This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies the law requires us to keep.

11Your safety

Please read our Safety Tips. Never send money to someone you have not met and verified with your family. Use Report on any profile that worries you — it blocks that member at once and sends the report to our team.

12Availability and changes

We work to keep the service available and secure, but it may sometimes be interrupted for maintenance or reasons outside our control. We may change or discontinue features. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell members before the change takes effect; continuing to use the service afterwards means you accept the new terms.

13Limitation of liability

OpenShadi provides the service on an "as is" basis. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for the conduct of any member, for the accuracy of what members say about themselves, or for the outcome of any meeting, relationship or marriage that begins through the service. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited under Indian law.

14Ending your account

You can hide your profile or delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms; where possible we will tell you why.

15Law and complaints

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.

Complaints about content or conduct on the service can be sent to our Grievance Officer at openshadiofficial@gmail.com. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days, as required by the IT Rules, 2021.
