Safety Tips

Most people are sincere. These habits protect you from the few who are not.

01How OpenShadi protects you

  • Nobody can message you until you accept their request.
  • You decide who sees your photos — everyone, or only members you have accepted.
  • Your phone number is never shown on your profile.
  • Report on any profile blocks that member immediately and sends the report to our team.
  • Verification badges show which members have had a document reviewed.

02Never send money

The most common matrimony fraud is a request for money: a medical emergency, a customs or courier fee for a gift, a visa, a business loss, an investment. No genuine match will ask you for money before you have met and your families have spoken. If anyone asks, stop replying and report the profile.

03Protect your personal information

  • Keep the conversation in the OpenShadi chat until you are comfortable.
  • Do not share your home address, workplace details, bank details, OTPs or ID documents with a match.
  • Be careful with very personal photos and video calls with someone you have not met.

04Watch for warning signs

  • Details that do not match the profile, or vague answers about family and work.
  • Pressure to decide quickly, to move off the platform, or to keep things secret from your family.
  • Claims of living abroad or on a long posting, with constant reasons why they cannot meet.
  • Refusing to let families speak, or avoiding a video call and a meeting entirely.

05Involve your family

Let your family know whom you are talking to. A call between families answers many questions quickly and is a natural safety check. Verify important details — education, job, address — politely, and expect the same in return.

06Meeting for the first time

  • Meet in a busy public place during the day, never at a private home or hotel room.
  • Tell a family member or friend where you are going and whom you are meeting; share your live location.
  • Arrange your own travel so you can leave whenever you want.
  • Keep the first meeting short, and consider taking a family member along.

07If something goes wrong

Use Report on the profile, or write to openshadiofficial@gmail.com. If you are in danger, call 112 (emergency). For online fraud, call the national cyber-crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.
